Hi, friends!
I hope your day went well! Mine was a dumpster fire due to all sorts of morons around me.
Topic of the NOT – what’s something cool that’s new where you’re at?
They’re repaving a big road near me, and while grinding down the old asphalt to grade the road, they found old trolley lines!!! That’s super cool!
Just for the breathtaking audacity of it:

Mind you, I have paid not-quite $29 for a croque monsieur, which is basically a ham and cheese, but there’s a bit more involved, and this was seated at a table for dinner. It also came with a garden salad and the restaurant had a lovely outdoor patio, where we sat.
Based on your post I was expecting that to be a bespoke Iberico and Manchego creation, but nope, plastic wrapped cheapo instead.
$29 for a nice sandwich with a salad and great view, OK. That thing? Maybe they have a lot of Russian plutocrat children hiding from Putin in the neighborhood who don’t care?
That’s a breakaway branch of the famous Zabar’s family. There’s the flagship on the Upper West Side that’s very famous, founded who knows when, but then at some point a younger brother went out on his own. They can’t use the family name “Zabar” so they came up with E.A.T, which stands for—I forget what, but the E is Eli Zabar, the prodigal son. The people in the article must be his (grand?)children.
I’ve heard that Zabars corned beef sandwiches cost an arm and a leg, but at least you get insulted in an unexpectedly cutting way by the staff and you get a metric ton of corned beef on your sandwich. What’s the point of this?
A pile of Corned beef?
We got a pro soccer team, they played their first game this past Saturday. I’m not a fan but I hope it’s good for the city.
Congrats! We got a pro soccer team this year and I think their 8th game is going to be this weekend. It’s been awesome and people are loving it!
They ‘found’ trolley lines? They didn’t know that the lines were there?
I ask because our town’s main street is scheduled for repaving, but theyre replacing old water mains first then possibly removing the old trolley lines that ran thru the center of town.
I’ve read about water pipes being worked on where I live and the crews finding the original pipes, still functional, were made of wood.
I suspect they knew there were lines along the road but how the road is now vs 100 years ago who knows. Missouri barely keeps records of shit.
Also I don’t think they expected to find the lines like 3 inches from the street level.
We had tons of streetcar lines exposed, due to the gawdawful pothole situation here this past winter!
These were just the first/easiest/most recent conversations about it that I grabbed;
Sooooooo many potholes all over Mpls & St. Paul this winter, eating tires, busting tie-rods, and even breaking z few axles…
The ONLY cool thing, was seeing exactly how many of the old streetcar lines & paving bricks are STILL underneath–even though I’ve seen tons of them dug up over the 20+ years since I moved to the cities😉
There’s a book fair at the end of the month not far from me. I’m hoping for good weather.
That’s exciting! Book fairs are fun!
At least a couple of local indy bookstores will have booths. It’s awfully early to be thinking about Christmas, but if I could get some shopping done in April that would be amazing.
Our state passed an assault weapons ban, that’s pretty cool!

Today I saw a hawk & eagle circle each other. The hawk was around all day being chased by crows. I think she may have a nest or planning one. She swooped at the eagle & the eagle flipped over to show her talons. That ended it. Whole time a crow was trying to get involved but being ignored by both.
Not surprising about the crow. Corvids like to meddle in things.
The crows rule my area but usually it is a safety in numbers thing. They make enough noise to get other crows to come join the fight but this little guy was all alone against two serious raptors.
And they LOVE to dive-bomb hawks!😆😂🤣💖
new? uhhh….we’ve got a nesting peregrine live cam on top of the rijksmuseum now?

other than that im just trying to pour enough coffee into me to stay awake for the quarterly meeting later…
yay…stats and fucking graphs…much wow…very excite
Awesome about the peregrines. There’s a tower near me where they are supposed to be nesting, and I’ve heard what sounds like it could be them, but haven’t seen them.
We have tons of pigeons so they have lots to feed on, so it’s not crazy to think they’re busy around me.
Peregrines are some of the coolest little raptors out there!😁🤗💖
I still remember Mae, Maud, Sota, and how big a deal it was here, back in the 1980’s & 90’s, as i grew up, that we got Peregrines re-established here in the Midwestern US💞💗💖💝

I am super-sorry that I missed this conversation as it happened. Peregrine numbers are dropping, and the causes of that are actively being explored.
Boise, Idaho, happens to be the home of the Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey. I happen to be a member of The Peregrine Fund, and would encourage anyone to join and contribute!
