Happy Thursday! I hope your week is going well. Mine has been slow but finally close to wrapping up.
What some good stuff you’re enjoying? Anything you want to brag about?
I got a massive watermelon from the farmers market and that melon is fan-fucking-tastic. I’ll be hitting that up that like candy.
Also, the sweet coneflowers all over the back part of my garden started flowering which means I get to see tons of bright yellow flowers and pollen-drunk bumblebees.
I have a three day weekend because of my healing back and botched vacation plans.
Plan on doing some drywall repairs and working on finishing up a couple of plastic model kits. Gotta help the parents on Sunday with some paperwork.
My 20 year old self would laugh, but I don’t mind.
I thought I was super extroverted when I was younger.
And then once I made it into my late 20s, I realized I loved seeing my friends but not actually doing anything. Like let’s run errands together and go to Target. Or let’s sit around and watch tv and talk about dumb shit.
And then once I hit my 30s I was like huh I’m fine just staying in and being relaxed all by myself.
20 yr old me would be very confused about 38 yr old me.
I totally relate to this.
I finished staining my deck today which has been a long tedious process.  It is a large tigerwood deck & I let it go two years without doing any upkeep.  That meant pressure washing, cleaning, sanding & brightening before staining.  I ended up brushing half & hand staining half on my knees for half a day.  I also had to tarp off the patio bellow so I didn’t get stain on the patio.  Yeah, wind & exhaustion caused me to have a few  whoopsies but I think I did pretty good.  Tigerwood is beautiful but a pain in the ass to maintain!
I had to google tigerwood and OMG it’s gorgeous!!!
I need to have my back deck replaced (it’s old and getting decrepit) and I think I’m just going to use the composite stuff so I don’t have to do anything to maintain it.
I’ve built a bunch of composite decks & it is way less maintenance.  Only thing I don’t like about them is they get super hot.  It can be 100 outside here & I can walk barefoot on my deck.  Not worth the maintenance I have to deal with for the 5 days per year it gets that hot but small victories?

I don’t like being barefoot outside so I think I’m not going to worry about the deck heat.
I also had to move all the shit too big to move off the deck from one side to the other multiple times in this process.

My deck is my getaway, I can go outside & watch the boats go by or watch the birds soar, very therapeutic & only way I could justify all the work on this deck & this house.
I mean, that’s just beautiful. The hard work sucks, but there is obviously a payoff!
I think an umbrella, a few well placed potted plants, and a rollout bamboo mat or two can do wonders.
When we replaced our deck, we opted for Ipe because we knew our lazy ass selves would never ever maintain it. It’s been 5 years and still looks great (we like that it turned grey)… only 65 years to go until it needs to be replaced again. All this to say that I’m impressed with your hard work.
Ipe is awesome but I love its original color or stained so I could never let it go gray. Â Same thing though, it will not get very hot in the sun being such a hardwood.
I had a couple of macarons today and they were delicious.

Oooh I love macarons!!! They’re so refreshing and I love the texture.
They’re one of those “fancy foods” that I didn’t try for the first time until a few years ago and I was like wow where have you been all my life???
I will be making watermelon limeade tomorrow for mixers or just straight with some sparkling water.
I need this recipe!

took a weather gamble when the forecast started looking like 90+ last week
figured fuck that shit…and put my hours in
got em all locked in now
forecast still looks like 90+…might actually be pushing 100 on tuesday before it breaks and drops back to a more civilized low 80s
i feel pretty fucking clever 🙂
course…on the flipside….work bbq today….could be i just need the extra weekend time to recover from the food poisoning…
