What’s on the menu this week?
Are you making Hoppin John for New Year’s?
After all the holiday food, especially the meals which can be described as “well I have some leftovers, fuck it I guess I can cobble together a meal from this,” I am looking forward to some hearty soups and easy meals with veggies. Maybe some pasta in red sauce with sausages, too.
We are hosting a NYE party tomorrow for around 20+ & I am doing all the food w/ my daughters. We are going all out. Sushi, fried poke, pork adobo, chicken karaage, miso shitake shrooms & garlic shrimp. It should be fun!
I just started the blackeyed peas soaking so I can make Hoppin John tomorrow.
I was also just watching this episode of Midnight Diner, and I’m going to make a simplified version of soba for new year’s.

nah mate…. they are the same thing…they just look different and we gave em different names just to be difficult
Never hurts to check with these things. We have two names for the same thing and one name for two really different ones. Ethnic groups got here and started making all kinds of stuff up.
oliebollen are essentialy hole free ball shaped donuts
appelflappen are….well … deep fried apple slices in a fuck load of batter and sugar and cinamon
