It hasn’t exactly escaped my consistent internal-berating-of-self that some of you gracious DeadSplinterites and donors (I think we’re at the point in which we all know and are comfortable with who we are as a community – although we can strive for better which I’ll get to in the near future – so “donors” definitely isn’t the best term?) members of this lovely community might be thinking, “WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE MONEY I DONATED TO THE GOFUNDME? Everything is the same!”

I assure you that literally nothing is the same.

Some of you might remember when Manny offered up this site as one of the possible lifeboats when Kinja went full self-harm emo on us…and when I was dumb enough to think, “the more the merrier” as it pertained to lifeboats (don’t @ me!). Yada Yada, Blah Blah…this lot (including you) ended up here…reading this very post.

I did everything I knew how to do with the way this WP site was first created and I did everything I didn’t know how to do to make it sightly better. A lot of trial and error. A lot of wasted $. A lot of stress. Most importantly, a LOT of love (from you!).

Times have changed. Three years have passed. Spending exorbitant amounts of USD on Canadian credit cards for the sake of hopefully trial and error-ing enough to make it worth it ran out of its feasibility quite quickly during the pandemic…until YOU came in with your support and generosity.

I’ve moved the site to a Canadian host (so I can manage it myself). I’ve switched the DNS to my own. I’ve upgraded the server to 4 cpu cores and extra RAM. I’ve upgraded to the most advanced and expensive hosting option with the new host. All of this, in the long run, will make things cheaper…quite considerably. These changes also allow us to do more things…as in more sites? The forum type site @lemmykilmister inquired about? The possibilities are endless.

I’ve also upgraded my backup server at home. That means that if anything happens to the daily backups through the host (like what happened with the previous host a month or so ago when the site shut down), I’ll have everything backed up (manual backups are tedious and annoying and time-consuming but I won’t complain because I personally benefit from this upgrade for my Plex server…well…those who have access to it do….if you want access PM me).

I’d like to thank everyone for being a part of this community and for contributing to it.

I’m going to need to use @megmegmcgee’s US credit card for the cache plugin and the auto-remove metadata from uploaded images plugin this upcoming year so feel free to reach out to her to figure out how you can help her with that 300-ish$.

I’m also still in the negative column for all these upgrades if you’re feeling generous enough to…
