Hi, friends!
Happy Sunday! I hope your weekend has gone well.
I have been crazy busy and while it’s been very productive, wowsers I need another weekend day.
I finally got to go to my first STL CITY SC soccer game last night and holy fuck was that fun!! The fans are amazing and CITYPARK stadium is brand new and really well designed. Helps that we won 3-0, suck it Houston.
Today I’m doing a ton of yard work – both on the perennial rain garden and the veggie garden. Remind me next time I talk about expanding the garden that going from 3 to 5 raised beds increases the amount of labor to maintain them.
I’m trying something new this year. It took me a few years to identify that one of the leftover perennials from the former homeowner is a giant comfrey plant. (thanks, tiktok gardening videos on my facebook feed!) I learned from the internet and tiktok that it’s great for permaculture since you can chop up leaves and use them as mulch on your garden. Seeing as it’s toxic to dogs (I have no pets to worry about) and irritating to the skin – it’s very rough – I’m hoping it helps deter some critters from my plants, too. And my giant comfrey set up a taproot with another big plant a few feet away and let’s just say that’s now gone and I have a bunch of fresh mulch on my plants! I’ll let you know if this goes well or fucks everything up!
IDK man I did so much work this weekend (on my house, helping a friend move…etc.)
I do not feel like I had a weekend at all!
Moving is the worst!
Seriously I need a second weekend! I made a to-do list of all the not-work stuff last I need to get done before this coming weekend and it currently is sitting at 31 items. I only have 14 items left though!!!
I’m still getting over that adult video I saw that featured someone I know and don’t like. He was the young one, by the way, not the “Daddy,” so this must have been actually like 20 years ago.
Otherwise, I’m working on a kind of “Art Lover’s Guide to Rome.” It’s fascinating, to begin with. I’ve been to Rome and I am an art lover, but as I’m going through it, I’m realizing that
1. I never knew/saw that!
and
2. Who gives a flying fuck? One more church with altars designed in the manner of—I’ll become a Wiccan! Can men be Wiccan? Or is that a women-only thing?
Men can be wiccans! One of my college friends is a priest? warlock? elder? sorry I don’t know the correct term for spiritual leaders for them be he’s a dude so men can be wiccans.
I’m going to sign up because if I read one more word about the Counter Reformation and the High Baroque even the most austere Congregationalist (that was my mother’s sect) church would prove to be too much. I need to go into the woods and worship a tree, or at least commune with one. I think it’s the Druids who worship trees. I should do more research.
Just got back from a neighbor’s graduation party. Mmmm I ate a lot of a fancy grain salad and strawberry shortcake. Hung out with all the usual suspects that I haven’t seen since last year. It was a nice way for the week to end.
That sounds like a great party!
Also yes yes yes love a good grain salad.
One of my Hawaii nieces is in town visiting her husbands WA family so they are coming for dinner. I have been cleaning & cooking all day. I’m now sitting with a cocktail before they show while my daughter makes potstickers. I made the filling, she is the wrapper/chef. We are doing a test batch first because we skipped lunch. Quality control is job 1 here!
Hell yeah QC is super important!
We, too, went to a neighbor’s graduation party. The little kid that yelled “hey neighbor” to us is going to Pitt, graduated with honors, in a class of 659. The mom drove 3 hours round trip to get the huge party cake, as they are all vegan and that was the closest place with quality cake. The entire family are good people.
They sound like great neighbors!
Just arrived at the beach in Oregon after a day in Portland. Saw a huge flock of pelicans (on the beach, not Portland).
I think I’ll post a special West Coast version of city walks in a couple of weeks.
Yay! Have some bay scallops for me, if you eat seafood.
Oregon beaches are gorgeous!
Spent most of it at work.
Weather like this makes me resent working OT (my heart screams “NO, I DON’T WANNA!” and my wallet/brain reply “BILLS, MOTHERFUCKER!”)
On top of that I was the dayshift weekend team lead meaning if anything goes to shit, it would land on me. However, unlike a lot of folks, I don’t mind the work/responsibilities/headaches and kept my cool when things started to go south all at once today.
Although sometimes being bored out of your mind is a good thing as it means all is well that is till the shit flew after lunch.
