Trump’s Treatment Suggests Severe Covid-19, Medical Experts Say

“Suddenly, they’re throwing the kitchen sink at him,” Dr. McGinn said. “It raises the question: Is he sicker than we’re hearing, or are they being overly aggressive because he is the president, in a way that could be potentially harmful?”

A short-handed Supreme Court — driven from its courtroom by the pandemic, grieving over the loss of a colleague and awaiting the outcome of a divisive confirmation battle — will return to the virtual bench on Monday to start a term that will present Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. with a daunting test.

Suddenly, Amy Coney Barrett Might Not Have the Votes

Senator Mitch McConnell postponed the Senate’s return for two weeks but said lawmakers would continue confirmation hearings as planned.

  1. Welp I’m happy today
Rona is on a streak here
Management now has it hopefully that includes the HR woman
Seems one of the geniuses in the office decided it was a great idea to attend a football party with 200 others then worked for a week with a cold before deciding he should maybe get tested
Why are these idiots paid more than me?

    • …I’m torn between the dunning kruger thing & the old saw about some people knowing “the cost of everything but the value of nothing”?

…but seriously…good luck with that, sir

  2. There’s some good that came out of all of this, like or loathe Trump. His attending physician Sean Conley is an osteopath. I’d heard the term and there’s some online debate about whether this makes him a quack. This led to me to learn a little more about osteopathy.

I don’t know how rigorous a program is that would grant you a Doctor of Osteopathy. I know there are specialties in the medical field, like a renowned heart surgeon is different from a renowned brain surgeon. I think my own Primary Care Provider (these used to be known as GPs) is a little bit of an osteopath himself, because of his “holistic” approach, but like most doctors his diploma hangs prominently in his office and he has an MD from a good medical school, not a DO.

So that was interesting. Whatever happened to Trump’s old doctor, the one who looked like a cross between Ron Jeremy and Svengooli? The one who pronounced Trump one of the fittest men to ever hold the presidency. And this coming off eight years of Barack Obama, who along with Michelle will probably outlive all of us.

    • If I remember correctly, that’s not so much of a thing anymore.  There are two organizations which are responsible for setting standards for residents and fellows.  There’s the ACGME for MDs and…well, I can’t remember the one for DOs.  At any rate, a number of years ago, the two organizations came to an agreement for a unified educational standard.

    • Ronny Jackson, a doctor Feel Good of sorts, is now running for a House seat as a full blown Trump Republican.

I wonder what Obama’s one on one experience was with him, if he only truly revealed himself after serving Trump. I’m too lazy to Google how lead WH physicians are appointed/chosen but it would seem that you don’t have to be a miracle worker or the best MD in the country to get the job.

  3. I forgot to mention that I voted last week. Slipped my ballot into the official drop box. There were no scary trump vigilantes, and a fairly steady stream of cars. So that’s done.

    VOTE!

    • I’m going to go on voting day. It’s my kid’s first time voting, and I’ll be taking her there. Be interesting to see if there are “observers” present.

However, today’s paper said that Democratic mail-in ballots were outpacing Republicans by a 2-to-1 margin. I believe it was something like 184,000 to 93,000 on Friday, which was … large enough to “startle seasoned political analysts.”  If Trump is counting on Florida he needs to lean on our bootlicking governor to start throwing away votes.

      • Taking my daughter to vote for the first time is a fond memory for me. We went out to breakfast afterwards, and that became our voting tradition until she moved to a different county.  And what a memorable and important election for her first ballot.

  4. So Rudy Giuliani was helping Christie prep Trump for the debate.  If he doesn’t have the virus, I can only think of two possibilities.  Either he is truly the undead monster we all thought or he never stopped spewing his toxic breath long enough to inhale Trump’s sweet virus breath.  Ok, I thought of a third, not even the virus wants Rudy.  Also, I think more Senators have tested positive but are not revealing it because of the SCOTUS hearings.
This is a really important story that happens today I haven’t seen too much about…

  5. The White House relied on a rapid test, but used it in a way it was not intended.

For months, the White House’s strategy for keeping President Trump and his inner circle safe has been to screen all White House visitors with a rapid test.

But one product they use, Abbott’s ID Now, was never intended for that purpose and is known to deliver incorrect results. In issuing an emergency use authorization, the Food and Drug Administration said the test was only to be used by a health care provider “within the first seven days of symptoms.”

The ID Now has several qualities in its favor: It’s portable, doesn’t need skilled technicians to operate and delivers results in 15 minutes. Used to evaluate someone with symptoms, the test can quickly and easily diagnose Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

But in people who are infected but not yet showing symptoms, the test is much less accurate, missing as many as one in three cases.
