Who thought this was a good idea? [NOT 13/7/23]

Hi, friends!

Has anyone been following the ridiculousness of Kanye West’s “christian school” for the kids?

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/10-strangest-troubling-allegations-yes-donda-academy-rcna92992

I just don’t understand being like oh yeah, 15k a year? That’s totally reasonable for a brand new school for my children with no accreditation designed by a dude with no experience?

Doors locked from the outside, no glass on the windows, no chairs, no outside food, no using the second floor*? No electrical power? Exposed wires? Kids not allowed to wear colors?

This is weirdo cult shit. I can’t understand parents keeping their kids there. You’d be better off just calling it homeschooling and doing nothing with them at home. I didn’t realize California was so permissive with what private schools are allowed to get away with.

*yeah something illegal is happening on the second floor, like holding stolen goods or art forgeries or something

  1. nope….

but then i dont understand home schooling either

dont do that shit over here

    cant..legally…in fact

as we have a legal standard of learning here….and theres very few parents that know all the history maths and languages well enough to be able to teach it at home

    oh and biology

    and the sciences…….

seriously how the fuck does home schooling work?

    • It doesn’t for the most part. The only places that can actually justify home schooling are some of our more remote areas. NM for example has some of the longest school bus routes in the country. The longest is 2 hours, one way. So lots of parents in that state home school because sending the kid to school is basically killing their ability to have a life.

But places like LA or basically the entire Northeast except Maine? Fuck that. Send your kid to school.

    • Interesting, because one the hotspots for it is the community in Michigan that’s descended from immigrants who belonged to the conservative branch of the Dutch Reformed Church.

Betsy DeVos was Trump’s education secretary and she’s the daughter of the founder of Amway, and that family spent huge amounts pushing homeschooling in Michigan. There’s a bunch of other rightwing Dutch there, kind of like Afrikaners.

      • we lean right over here….all the dutch you have fucked off coz we were too left for them

dont trust anything with a dutch name your side of the pond

especially not ones that cant spell their own name

        DeVos my ass

        its the De Vos

        or Devos

you dont get to use capitals in the middle miss the fox

      • Someone I worked with tried to get me sucked into Amway but no one I knew wanted to buy overpriced vitamins and off brand candy.

$150 for a starter kit was a relatively expensive lesson in the scammy nature of multi level marketing networks.

I figured the reason Amway hates public education is that it makes it harder for scams… Er pyramids… Uh Mlms to recruit suckers.

  2. As far as weirdo cults, there’s an episode of How To With John Wilson where he describes joining a singing group in college, and they got invited to an a capella event.

Only it turned out to be a recruiting event for the sex cult NXIVM, and when Wilson’s group complained in some online group, NXIVM tried to get him expelled from college, and his idiotic college actually tried to appease NXIVM.

It’s a great show, and there’s a new season on the air later this month on HBO Max.

  3. I’d like to know more about this. 15K a year is not expensive for a private school. So who were the people sending their children there? How were they persuaded that they were going to get a quality education?

  4. What kind of learning environment is that?

I didn’t know that Fuhrer Bunker was a school aesthetic.

And if you think that someone teaching the Kanye Krazy Kurriculum is worth 15k a year  then you probably have got worse problems that need addressing and you shouldn’t have kids.

  5. I know a couple of families in my little area that homeschool their kids.  They seem to be doing OK, mostly because their parents are good people and not assholes.

It’s bad enough that kids have to throw the dice when it comes to whether or not their parents are assholes, I’m not willing to bet their lives on being educated by assholes.

Send kids to school.  My kid went to public school K-12 and turned out to be a really good person despite having a fucking goof like me as a parent.  Mom’s genetics were definitely more powerful than mine, but the kid got my immeasurable charm.

    • Our kids went K-12 to public schools in a city system that’s been held up on TV as a symbol of everything that’s wrong wih America. But I  honestly can’t remember how many AP classes they ended up taking, and they had lots of great friends.

I get how schools don’t work for every kid. But parents shouldn’t be afraid to try.

  6. OT and totally random. Today I learned about Hobby Horsing where young girls compete in dressage (horse dancing) and jumping contests. The horses are of the heads on broom sticks variety. At first I thought this is fucking ridiculous but then again lots of sports are. The girls take it seriously enough to warrant a competition and it looks like they are having fun.
