The good news is that it is finally the weekend – Yay!

The bad news is that I’ve gone full SplinterRIP and have been awake intermittently all night trying to finish up this post.

More good news is that I cannot possibly post as many links as he might.

Every time they drop news about Matt Gaetz, I think of poor ol’ Matt Gertz. RIP his Twitter mentions.

I was supposed to have a friend in town this weekend but they canceled due to the gas issue. Which was disappointing, particularly considering that panic buying seems to be main reason we are having a shortage…

    Gaetz is about to Gaetz Gaotz.

    • Nothing is going to save Gaetz now, unless he’s got a bigger fish that he can turn over to the feds. But if he does, his buddy Greenberg probably already flipped on that individual. Local paper says Greenberg is pleading guilty to 6 charges, the worst of which is sex trafficking. 
       
      Honestly, I’m surprised Gaetz’ rich daddy hasn’t smuggled him out of the country by now. But I’d venture to guess that Matt is under federal surveillance, so probably wouldn’t be easy. 

    • The Dems need to get off the pot and rev up the ethics process. They need to freeze his budget, shut down his offices, and release his staff. They have gotten soft about waiting until final verdicts are in, but there was a no reason for doing that with Duncan Hunter and there is no reason for doing it with Gaetz.

  3. I think ol Marge Traitor Greene is attacking AOC as some kind of lame ass smoke screen to cover for the news of her pal, Matt.
     
    Also, the CDC spontaneously saying No Mask/If Vaxxed – seems a little weird and out of the blue. 

  5. I am curious to know the thoughts of the the DeadSplinterati about wearing masks in the future, yes or no? I may continue to do so in public, just to avoid colds and flu. 

    • I’ll probably keep wearing mine just so people can’t tell I’m seriously considering murdering them for getting in my way whilst shopping…not spreading my colds is an added bonus

    • I’m just planning to follow the rules of the places that I go. I’m not particularly worried about contracting COVID now after being vaccinated. The vaccine seems to be super effective. I don’t like wearing a mask but I’m not gonna be a jerk about it. I’ll keep one in my pocket and deploy as necessary. 
       
      Also, temperatures are hitting the 90s in Florida. Masks are fine when it’s cool out, but once you move from sweater to sweating weather, they get uncomfortable fast.

    • When I first heard the new guidelines, I was ecstatic…but then doubt set it in. I can’t trust that every maskless person has had their full dose of the vaccine. I hope they create a simple vaccine passport like a QR code or ID that you scan when entering a public establishment. I won’t wear a mask when outdoors at parks or playgrounds. I will still wear them in grocery stores. No indoor restaurants or bars for me in the foreseeable future (but I can blame the kids for that). I’m still on the fence about taking a plane. Can’t wait till young children can be vaccinated too! TMI they say breast milk could transfer vaccine antibodies (don’t quote me on that as I am not a scientist). I’m considering pumping and serving it to my 3.5yr old.

    • …I think I’m likely to keep wearing one anytime I’m inside somewhere with people I don’t know to be vaccinated but probably not when outside or when with friends/family who’ve had their shots

      …to my mind the principle reason to wear a mask is to avoid being a potential vector (afaik they’re better at stopping you giving something to someone else than preventing you breathing in anything you could catch…or at least that goes for most masks) so that would sort of align with that logic?

    • I’m honestly kinda pissed at the CDC, and I think it’s a terrible move. The vaccines are extremely effective at preventing severe disease, but not necessarily all disease. And allowing more mild cases is allowing more vectors and more chances at mutation. Besides the fact that doing things on an honor system is beyond stupid with all the selfish assholes in the world. And I’m genuinely worried about my kid, given we have no idea when we’ll be seeing a vaccine for young kids. 
       
      I will be keeping my mask in most scenarios. Less so outside (but still in crowded outdoor spaces), and I’ve already started getting together with vaccinated family members unmasked – I will probably start doing the same with vaccinated friends. People I trust, not strangers. 

      • By the way, yesterday was shot 2 for me. Last night was pretty rough. I was exhausted but couldn’t sleep. I had full body aches, my whole body felt over sensitive, and was shivering under my comforter for hours, up until I was suddenly overwhelmingly hot and had to throw off the blanket. Been dealing with a mild headache since yesterday afternoon and it just kinda has me on edge.
         
        Still worth it, but goddamn. 

      • I feel like the CDC just rolled over and showed their bellies on this one.

        We know people will just not wear masks and say they’ve been vaccinated if they haven’t. And employees aren’t going to be asking people who are unmasked if they were vaccinated or not.

    • I think it makes sense on planes and in uncontrolled, close, large crowds. 

      I’m notorious for always being sick on vacation, and I think it’s the germs from the plane and airport. 

    • I’ll still follow the local laws, but I’m ready to unmask fully. I’m beginning to reach my breaking point. After a year of putting our lives on hold, and turning our worlds upside down, I’m ready. I’m ready to lose the constant anxiety of being afraid of my fellow man, of worrying if I have a mask in my possession. I’m ready to get back out into the world and enjoy life. Because the last 15 months have aged me about 15 years. I’ve put on 20 lbs, got a ton more gray hair, and now an unhealthy obsession with this fucking smartphone, since that’s all I could do for the last 8 months. I’ve played by the rules, got both shots, and I’m ready to say, fuck this shit! If you’re not vaxxed by now, YOUR PROBLEM. Don’t want the vax? I won’t cry at your funeral. So yea, I’m ready.

        I mean, except for all the people who haven’t been able to get it, either due to allergies or due to being children. Even 12-15 year olds have only been eligible for a couple of days, so even the ones first in line won’t be immune for at least a month.
         
        We all want life to go back to normal, but the CDC is jumping the gun and I think we’re either going to see spikes in a few weeks, or just plateau when we should be decreasing. 

      • Omg same! I’ve got tons of grey hair now (I went from the same 5 strands that I had for the past ten years to roughly 30% of my head and my hair is black so it shows. womp womp. *sighs* *pours a glass of red* *puts it away for later because no day drinking allowed while nursing*), am +20lbs over my regular weight, and my face…I might continue to wear a mask just to hide it. Feeling so tired right now and it’s a beautiful sunny day. Missing my dog too…hmmm didn’t come here to post negative stuff on a Saturday. Hopefully, you’ve all moved on to the Brain drain, Dirty Business, and Duan.
         
        And to end on a high note. I’m digging the new DS banner.
         

    • I figure I’ll keep wearing one until there is some semblance of a return to normalcy.
      I’m not terribly worried, but it’s also not terribly difficult, and I’m kinda hoping it will help contribute to a responsible atmosphere and help normalize it.
      And, once this is all over, I’ll hang on to them for when I get a cold or something, just so there is less chance of me making others ill.

      • I’ve been in department meetings where people announced they weren’t getting the vaccine so mask on for me.  If the workplace won’t make it mandatory then they can’t really relax mask protocols, IMO. I haven’t actually been vaccinated yet, I kept trying to schedule for the medical center I go to  without any luck, today when I went to the city yard to dump brush I saw that the amvets hall was a walk-in clinic during the week, it is literally a minute from my house, so Monday I will be in line.

      • I guess that’s the other thing – I don’t find masks particularly burdensome. I know a lot of people hate them, but I made a point of buying several different masks and found a few that were lightweight, comfortable, and effective.
         
        On another note, in my previous comment I thought I was past the worst of it, but today got worse and I’ve been whimpering in pain for a lot of the day. I think maybe I’m past the worst of it now? I probably should have checked my temp last night. Today on ibuprofen I was at 100.0.

  7. KLM scrapped flights to Israel for the time being as they feel there’s too many missiles getting chucked around for comfort
    Considering Israel just decided to blow up Al Jazeera’s offices for some reason I guess that’s going to get worse for a while
