    • Mrs. Butcher and I typically enjoy watching the Olympics…and then that bullshit over the Russian skater hit the fan.  The fact that the IOC is both corrupt and entirely toothless at the same time when it comes to Russian doping just made it impossible for us to keep watching.

          • …despite all the ways streaming services supposedly use algorithms to “improve the customer experience” netflix mostly seems to do a good job of obscuring the depth of its catalogue by managing to show a small selection of it over & over so it seems like that’s all there is?

            • The algorithms drive me crazy. Netflix seems to think I speak Hindi and Korean because I searched for ONE Bollywood movie and I’ve watched a couple of the Korean soap operas and a cooking show. So, now, that’s practically all that pops up on the main screen and I have to go digging to find movies in English!

              • I deliberately click on random things and watch for a few seconds to screw up the algorithm. I’d rather have a completely mixed up set of things showing up than what the AI thinks is my preferences.

          • We share with my sister and daughter. One of us pays from Hulu, one for Netflix, one for Prime, and share codes. You’re allowed so many on an account so it’s not even cheating. Except Prime has recently changed it to only people in your household. Because Jeff Bezos needs the money.

            • We do the same thing… Husband pays for Prime, I have free Hulu through the phone plan, one of my sons covers Netflix, another covers Disney+, and the last has Discovery+. So, everyone here has access to all of those and no one person has to eat the cost of everything.

            • My stepdaughter gave us her Netflix login but every time I tried it I got routed to a screen to enter my payment information.  Then I’d heard that Netflix was cracking down on password sharing so I just gave up.

              • We pay for 4 people to use ours, so me, my sister, daughter. A friend of mine has no money so I let him be our fourth. And my sister pays for multiple users on Hulu Live. I imagine if you only paid for one person they would try to shut that down.

    • Thanks. I was struggling with a way to express my anger. You saved me the trouble.

      I will say that in my experience, when people come up with some stupid fucking excuse to not visit a sick or dying relative, the actual reason is they don’t want to. Period. I hope that poor girl has someone who can comfort her while she’s dying besides these pieces of shit that claim to be parents.

       

    • Also: isn’t palliative care end-of-life care, just keep the person comfortable as best you can until they die, as they certainly will and sooner rather than later? So these two parents of the year won’t get a vaccination shot because ??? which prevents them from (probably) ever seeing their daughter again.

      I wonder if they have any other children (who haven’t been taken into protective custody and given new homes and new identities.)

      • Yes, it is. The girl is dying, and her fucking parents can’t be bothered to get a shot to see her. Like I said, they don’t want to see her, for whatever reason. Fucking scum.

        When my father-in-law was dying, people kept telling us, “I can’t go see him. It makes me too sad.” Those people included his wife and one daughter (my in-laws are fucking unbelievable).

        Makes YOU too sad? How do you think HE feels? And oh my God, what must a nine-year-old child feel?

        • Exactly.  What we have here is a fucking moral coward who can’t get past his own feels and blaming everyone but himself for being a fucking coward.  Trudeau Jr isn’t your problem, YOU ARE YOUR OWN PROBLEM TRUCKER FUCKER.

          I watched my friend die a little each day, but I still went because it wasn’t for me.

          No worst sting than finding out the people who are supposed to care about you, don’t.

          The worst thing?  That Palliative Care unit actually accomodates anti-vax morons so my disgust/dismay/rage got worse. At first I was judgy, but I can get why, but when I found out that it can accomodate the stupid then it all boiled out.

      • Yes, this. Palliative care is similar to hospice. They need to be vaccinated to see their ill daughter, and they are more worried about their “freedoms” than attending to their dying child. I hope he gets backed over by a truck.

    • Why is the reporter framing things like that? Why not give the honest version?

      This is like a naturist saying they “can’t” fill vital prescriptions for their kid because the pharmacy has a “no shoes no shirt no service” rule.

      Just because the person being cited makes a ridiculous statement doesn’t mean it can’t be framed accurately — reporters do this all the time in other contexts.

      over here now the measures are getting dropped the nutjobs have started protesting about corrupt gubment and a european digital passport connected to your bank account

      also the measures getting dropped is just coz elections are coming up and we’re all getting locked down again after!

      okay…they may have a point on that one…but still
