Hi, friends!
Anything good lately for meals? Getting any seasonal produce yet?
There’s a local farm that raises alpacas for wool and pigs because one of the owners loves making sausages. Dude loves finding obscure recipes (for Missouri palates) and just making them. This weekend he had longganisa, which is a regular in his rotation but not always available. It’s delicious.
I cooked off some cannellini beans to add to the sausage in the pan, along with chopped onions, kale and some halved cherry tomatoes (the last of the container, needed using up). It’s so good, the fat of the sausage makes the kale and beans taste even better. Served over rice. It’s a nice variation on rice and beans. 🙂
There was a sizzling sound from my eyeballs cooking this afternoon.
More seriously, my wife scored dozens of eggs from a friend of hers who keeps hens. I’m afraid my tastebuds aren’t refined enough to tell the difference between them and cheap supermarket eggs.
I can tell when I get local eggs if they’re raised free range. Like walk around and eat a shit ton of bugs and whatever else they want free range. The yolks will be a lot more orangey yellow and have richer flavor.
If their farm eggs but the chickens are still cooped up and on feed, eh same taste as grocery store brand eggs.
These chickens are free range enough to get eaten by predators, but I just can’t pick up the difference as far as the taste of the eggs.
I can see the difference, though, because they’re really irregular in size and shell color. No supermarket would sell that kind of variation from egg to egg.
Longganisa not to be confused with long pork. Which is where my mind went with that lead up.
The problem with long pork is the taste varies from person to person

Agagaggagaga! <—that’s not me cackling into my screen
I have a freezer full of meals but ran out of basmati rice (for my curry) so I went to Fortino’s and saw 8.99$ for 3.53 kgs (Galen Weston oligarchy/triopoly price gouging) then saw 7.99$ “President’s Choice” (which is Galen Weston’s own personal brand) for 4.54 kgs. I figured I have very little choice to support the pos that is literally taking over our already privatised health care system so I threw the PC rice in my cart. 7.99$ on the shelf. Rang in at 18.99$ (you have to pay attention to the rung up price or you’ll get ferked) so i said “fuck that…take it off!”
I went to No Frills (also Galen Weston owned) and saw 4.54 kgs (same brand as the 3.53 kgs) for 8.99$ so I threw it on the bottom of my cart and forgot about it when I went to pay.
FUCK YOU, GALEN!!!! I ACCIDENTALLY STOLE 9$ FROM YOU AND I FEEL THE SAME AMOUNT OF GUILT AS YOU DO FOR STEALING BILLIONS FROM CANADIANS YOU PIECE OF SHIT!
Preznit’s Gouge brand!
I admit I didn’t understand all of this comment but I’m really fucking proud of you for getting that rice!
I think the price on the shelf was per kg. So it rang up triple. An issue I’ve only ever had dealing with produce. Usually everything else in the store marked is what the price is, even if it comes in a # lb bag (save for sales tax).
Then a rant about grocery store monopolies. Which, word. (Looking at you KROGER).
I made Korean Style Ramen noodles for lunch. Cooked up some marinated pork belly I got from the local Korean supermarket in the air fryer while I boiled the noodles (from a packet) in a pot.
I used some fresh Korean style beef bone broth (bought from the store) instead of the awful chemical taste packet. I then placed some kimchee, Japanese sour plums, pickles and Korean spinach around the pork and noodles. Voila, majorly improved Ramen noodles.
…anyway…I have rice I’m too lazy to prepare.
I’m having to go back to pescatarian cooking now that my eldest has moved back in for awhile. Last night was Mahi Mahi enchiladas & tonight is spaghetti w/ plant based Italian sausage (I have a real one for myself). Not sure about rest of week but I have some frozen ahi & a bunch of tofu so will figure out something. Probably need to make a Szechuan tofu & eggplant dish this week.
Made the carnivore some low carb healthy eating turmeric chicken and asparagus for his work lunches.
Did I miss that recipe in a FYCE? Sounds delicious!
Hmmm I may or may not have it scheduled. Lemme check, I will add it if not. Thank you for asking!
