   • …I forget where…might have been eastern europe…might have been venice…somewhere anyway…it was not unusual to find a cinder block or something holding the seat down on the basis they’d go away again if they couldn’t get out…seems like it wouldn’t work for some of the things that might think of that venue in a way you wouldn’t want if you’re in aussie-rules…hence the other guesses?

     …either way…that sort of surprise at christmas definitely needs to be in the “charming animated” or at the very least “fictional” category if I’m going to be asked to exhibit good cheer?

2. So Trump claims Epstein’s jailhouse letter is fake. But Trump claims everything is fake.

   It’s too bad nobody ever told Trump the story of the boy who cried wolf. Plus encouraging conspiracy theories can clearly bite you in the ass.

   And for the record, while I’m not sure the letter is real (seems a little stupid for Epstein and kind of on the nose), I definitely do not accept all the postal anomalies that they’re using to claim that it’s fake. The postal system is a vast sea of millions and millions of pieces of mail, and things get routed to the wrong places ALL THE TIME. It’s actually pretty miraculous that most of that stuff gets sorted out and corrected. We had dozens of instances of weird shit (letter found in abandoned machinery after five years, letter addressed to New York sent to Juneau by mistake, on and on) in the campus mailroom 40 years ago, and I know from a buddy who’s a retired mail carrier that stuff still goes on.

   • My guess is it’s not real, but I think even if most people agree that’s the case, it’s going to be the right-wing fig leaf that will be “but but that wasn’t true so everything else isn’t true either” that they wave around like a bloody shirt for three decades.

   • …I saw someone who made a case for the postage making sense on the basis that if you ignored the stuff they said & retracted & said again & such…if *that guy* sent it…it would have come from the facility it seemed to originate from…then went to virginia because just *from* that guy was enough but *to* the other one was definitely a thing the federal authorities wanted to give a once over before it got delivered to the intended recipient

     …that much seems plausible…I don’t know whether the handwriting or the verbiage or the syntax or anything else does…&…the short drop being the same as the short route home is hardly a reach…but…play a risky game for high stakes until your next of ladders all turn into a big snake & you get locked up with people society wants to be protected from…could also be “home” in the sense of where you feel like you belong…in relatively short order if you just go from the sweetheart plea deal to dead in for-real custody

     …one seems more of a reach to me…but either is less of a reach than it would strike me for it to be he’d reach out in that direction in that way to say that stuff…so…it seems less than great…but…so does someone saying internally “damn – so we knew he was in & around this stuff but he’s in a lot more flight logs than they been saying…we nearly got to double digits on ones I didn’t know about…we didn’t know that…did we…do we…did he?”

   • Pancreatic cancer is indeed terrible. Ben is fortunate that he has Congressional health insurance, so his family will not be financially devastated by his demise. It’s unfortunate that his party has been responsible for denying healthcare to millions of other people.
