Last year I saw an event that was this jazz band that worked on Bowie’s final album Blackstar touring and putting on that album live with city’s symphonies and guest vocalists.
So they did that final album Blackstar, and then a few other hits. “Life on Mars” is a fantastically cool song, and hearing it at the Stifel Theater (originally an opera house in the 1930s, amazing acoustics) with the St Louis Symphony Orchestra was just fucking transcendent.
Also we got the second oldest symphony orchestra in the country, after the New York Philharmonic. So all you other cities can suck it.

Required counterpart to “Life on Mars” —
“Bowie’s in Space”
I would love to have seen that.
Ooh! It’s still touring! BLACKSTAR Symphony: The Music of David Bowie – dunno if it’s going anywhere near folks here though.
That is so cool! That’s an amazing album & I love Seau George’s covers of it…
