Monday Again… [DOT 27/6/22]

UGH, the weekend is too damn short. I spent two days being productive (against my better judgement). Now I need another weekend to recover!

ICYMI: Weekend DOT and Recipes!

How dumb can you be?

  1. This is one of the reasons why I, like millions of others, read The New York Post (America’s oldest newspaper, founded by Alexander Hamilton):

    https://nypost.com/2022/06/27/mayor-eric-adams-admits-being-shocked-by-the-sorry-state-of-nyc/

And best of all the Post has reintroduced commenting, so you really feel the pulse of the vox populi. Lots of the readers don’t live in New York, or have fled New York, so their insights are always enlightening.

I have not yet signed up to comment on NYP stories but I may have to. If I were to comment, I would say that of course Mayor Adams was shocked to see how badly The Greatest City in the World had fallen under de Blasio, since it’s an open secret that he was being driven from his condo in Fort Lee, New Jersey/The Garden State, to his part-time gig in downtown Brooklyn as Brooklyn Borough President, a mostly ceremonial make-work position/patronage mill, in a car with tinted, soundproof windows.

Needless to say I did not vote for Adams in the primary but did in the general, because it was either him or the eccentric, even by New York standards, Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels and possessor of 17 cats who live with him and his wife/partner, can’t remember which, in a Manhattan studio apartment.

    Oh, speaking of animals:

      • I’m telling you, if there were such a thing as a snappy, aggressive, non-whiny left-wing NYC tabloid I would subscribe in a heartbeat. That’s exactly what the Post was until Dorothy Schiff sold it, decades ago. The Daily News was supposed to pick up the mantle but years ago it presaged the Get/Out Media strategy of alienating readers by shrinking the staff, firing all the veterans, and putting itself behind a paywall for the meager content it produces (Get/Out Media hasn’t tried that but I’m sure they will.)

  2. Alas, there’s no coffee big enough for when the court strikes down the ability of the federal government to regulate anything later today. It’s less personal than the end of Roe, but it’s a disaster for the future, and will absolutely lead to even more death and carnage than the court’s other rulings this session.

    Democracy!

    • My personal prayer – Dear Lord – please rapture these your devoted disciples so the rest of us can live in peace. Forever and ever. Amen.

      • I said years ago my retirement plan is the Rapture.

All those fucksticks gone means more resources for the rest of us and less damage to the environment.

Plus they won’t be around to fuck shit up.

  3. Manchin and Collins aren’t that dumb. What they are is lying. Manchin is a Republican sleeper agent. Collins is just a shitball Republican. They were fed questions that set up both Kavanaugh and Gorsuch to give evasive non-answers that sounded like they wouldn’t overturn Roe. Their statements were carefully chosen to avoid perjury. After @EmmerdoesNOTrepresentme pointed out how carefully their words were parsed, I realized it was a setup from the start. Collins and Manchin lobbed one over the net to give those two reactionary nutjobs the chance to use their rehearsed speeches.
