Hi, friends!
Happy Thursday!
I hope your week is going well.
Do you have any signs of spring that you’ve noticed lately?
The vultures are back near my workplace, and I’m fucking here for it. I love seeing all those turkey vultures. They’re not year round residents near me, instead being here spring through fall.
Had a chat with the docs at the Dementia Clinic. The neurologists have a scale to rate the dementia severity level for seniors. Apparently a score higher than 40 is quite severe for dementia patients.
My mom got a 97. This explains why she needs to spend another month or two at the clinic.
My mom being the ego breaking Tiger mom wanted her kids to excel. She’s gone and done it herself…. In the medical books.
I had a dark laugh with my sister today over this one. Mom used to push us to be “elite” (in her eyes) and now she is one but in a medical condition. That pushing really pissed the three of us off (one of the things I didn’t like about mom.)
Dad on the other hand won’t eat because he misses mom. He gained 10 pounds last month and lost 13 this month.
I’m sorry your dad is not eating. It’s hard too because some older folks just have no appetite in general.
That’s mom. She dropped from about 125 pounds to 90ish from about 2 years ago.
Sorry to hear that. I hope outside food is allowed there, because I know institutional stuff isn’t good for weight maintenance.
The home does, but not the hospital.
From time to time I bring some Korean food but he doesn’t eat that much either.
Sorry to hear dude. I know it’s very hard to watch & feel like you are doing all you can but you are. I wish you the best & stay strong!
Thank you. It’s not easy to watch seeing my mom reduced to this.
Writing this out is part of my dealing with this.
Thinking of you; you are a good person.
Thanks Ellie. Some days I don’t feel like I am though.
You could’ve told staff months ago that your mom was off the charts. Now they have the proof they need. Hang in there, friend.
Peeping toads are out, earlier than ever.
We haven’t gotten our toad songs yet, but I don’t know what their timeline is.
I’m surprised I’m still seeing dark-eyed juncos since they only overwinter here.
I just checked https://www.hummingbirdcentral.com/hummingbird-migration-spring-2024-map.htm and looks like there’s already a few sightings in my area for hummers. I guess I’m putting the feeder out this weekend!
I haven’t seen any transient hummers yet but the locals have been draining the feeders quicker than usual for this time of year. Robins are the major sign of this time of year. They are in my grass digging for worms & under my deck looking for nesting spaces. We don’t see many in the winter but they are out in force. The flickers are pretty active too but haven’t hit the fireplace flashing yet.
When the Buzzards Return to Hinkley Ridge by Ruth Buzzi
@brightersideoflife ha! Those buzzards will eat the bodies for when some of your coworkers get what is coming to them. Also we DeadSplinterites are true internet friends and will help you hide the bodies as well.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
I’m more than content to give the vultures a lil snacky snack.
Tons of rain here lately, so tulips and daffodils are out.
Juncos have mostly disappeared, and the more colorful finches are back. I miss the downy woodpeckers — haven’t seen them in weeks.
