Hi, friends!
I hope your weekend went well! I did a shit ton of yard work. So much yard work. It’s not even done, but it’s much closer. At least the veggie garden parts are done. The raingarden in the back is still not done, but at least I had the time to triage the worst of the weeds back there.
There’s some random vining weed bullshit motherfucker that I’ve been fighting for 3 years now back there. I can tell you what it’s not – not wintercreeper, not ivy, not honesuckle. It’s aggressive as fuck and I think it spreads underground. I really might just buy some roundup for it, I’m that over it. I have more success controlling the honeysuckle and wintercreeper from the neighbor’s yard coming over than this.
Anyways, things look a lot better in my yard now, so that’s a nice visual reminder of my hard work.
I finally got around to raking up a bunch of old leaf litter and dumped it over a pile of fallen limbs I recently cut up.
I also dug up a walnut seedling that sprouted from a walnut a squrrel buried in my garden, and I replanted it in the park nearby. I think the nearest walnut tree is a quarter of a mile away, and I’m surprised it bothered to carry it so far.
Maybe someone tossed out some stale mixed nuts near you and that’s where it came from?
Signed,
I had a bag of stale mixed nuts from my parents house and the critters quite enjoyed them.
Managed to cut 1/2 my lawn before the rains came down.
I wouldn’t mind having a cashew or macadamia tree, but our climate’s not exactly Hawaii.
This still had the shell attached, and I suspect it was one of the deadly black walnuts, so it’s good I got it out of there.
Oh fuck me I would love a macnut tree. And an avocado tree. And a pomegranate shrub.
Why do I live in Missouri again?
Holy crap. I’m sitting on the porch and I saw something scuttling on the floor. It’s a spider that I swear is two inches from the tip of a front leg to its back leg. And it’s only April. How big will it grow by frost?
And now a fox ran by.
MAYBE IT WILL EAT THE GIANT SPIDERS!
Ooh a big wolf spider or a fishing spider? Did the leggies have bands of color or solid color?
It’s pretty dark but I’m guessing it’s a wolfie. They’re my second favorite type after jumping spiders.
