Baby, I’m Ready To Go [NOT 10/4/26]

I’m going to New York City tomorrow to meet my niece!

If it were just me traveling, I’d probably be half-packed by now, have checked out my routes, maybe thought about buying my train ticket.

Because I am taking my wife — who doesn’t totally love traveling and definitely gets nervous about big cities — and my son (who does enjoy traveling and is an eager companion but is autistic and 10 and has to be managed a little bit) I have instead prepared for this trip only slightly less than the Allies prepared for D-Day.

Have I written an itinerary for the first time in my life? I have!

Have I already bought my tickets for the Metro-North train as well as prepped my subway card? I have!

Have I called our hotel twice to make sure we can check in early and stash our bags? I have!

Because my wife’s travel anxiety is often expressed as “we can’t possible leave we need to clean the entire house right now” 10 minutes before we leave to travel somewhere, I have washed every single piece of clothing in the house not currently on our bodies. I vacuumed the entire house. I did the dishes, cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, went shopping for some train snacks and packed my suitcase and my son’s. (Note that I did this while also working and will be working much of the evening because, in fact, I can’t do both at once.)

I’m exhausted and we haven’t even left yet.

But I’m trying to make it as easy as possible on everyone! Phew. But I can say that we are about as ready to go as humanly possible.

So, onward. Friday! I’m excited! Even if I’m the only one!

  1. i think you are doing fantastic job mate

i also kinda think coming from me that means little to you
    but you know…. olive branch

i seem to rub you the wrong way often as not…and thats fair enough…. im blunt and coarse and what not..

but you know..i wish you the very best

  2. It’s easy traveling by yourself. With others… ugh.

Traveled with mom once, had to drive her for a few hours to meet some friends. It was the worst because I’m used to travel solo. Dad gave me shit for not being accommodating to her (he wasn’t wrong) when she whined about me later.

  3. I think it’s awesome how much prep you did for the trip! That means the world to people who get stressed while travelling.

  4. Holy shit you are amazingly!!! I hope you all have a great trip. You guys deserve it!

  5. My wife also has to have the house immaculate before we can travel. I’m always like, who is this for? If we die is this going to matter? She was taught you always have to come home to a clean house. I would rather be relaxed starting my trip & not at each other’s throats because a fucking glass didn’t get in the dishwasher!

    • actually…i think its precisely if you die it matters
cant leave a fuckin mess right? what will the next of kin think?

personally i think the only thing what needs to be sorted….before you leave….is the bed

need a properly made bed when you get back….so you can proper crash out the moment you are done traveling… the rest of the chores are for when you wake and holidays over
